David G. Thomas and James M. Vant, litigation shareholders in Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Boston office, will present at the Massachusetts Bar Association’s (MBA) CLE program on “Minimizing Discovery Disputes and Controlling Your Client's Legal Spending” from 2:00 – 5 p.m., June 4, 2015.
Serving as program chair, Thomas will moderate a panel discussion on ways that litigators can control the cost of discovery, particularly eDiscovery, and minimize disputes, while being a zealous advocate for their clients. Thomas will be joined by fellow Greenberg Traurig shareholder and litigator James Vant, as well as the Honorable Robert B. Collings, United States District Court - District of Massachusetts, Boston; Benjamin Berman, Esq., Kayak.com; Robert Brown, Esq., Oxford Global Resources, LLC; Jason Glass, HaystackID, LLC; and Ian J. McLoughlin, Esq., Shapiro, Haber & Urmy LLP.
Thomas is a litigation, trial, and appellate attorney focusing on handling complex commercial and business litigation in state and federal courts across the United States, with an emphasis on management-side class-action defense. He has brought cases through judge and jury trials in both state and federal court and defended companies involved in nationwide collective and class-action claims in both the employment and consumer context. Among other things, Thomas represents retailers in defending false advertising and unfair trade practices claims arising out of alleged violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes, including the Federal Trade Commission Act and “little FTC Acts” like Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 93A – the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act. In addition, Thomas represents lenders, mortgage brokers, and servicers involved in financial services litigation, including claims under TILA, RESPA, and state laws governing consumer financing. He also represents companies responding to civil investigative demands and enforcement actions brought by state agencies, including those brought by the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General and Consumer Protection Bureau.
Vant represents a broad spectrum of U.S. and international clients in corporate and commercial litigation in federal and state courts throughout the United States. He has represented clients in a wide variety of complex business disputes and internal corporate investigations concerning U.S. and international law, including claims involving tortious interference, fraud, breach of contract, directors’ fiduciary duties, securities, trade secret, employment, and bankruptcy law. Vant also counsels clients on strategies for the management of various risks and the avoidance of litigation. In addition, he is a certified specialist with the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS) and advises clients on an array of electronic discovery issues.
