Attorneys and staff in the New York City office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will take part in several events set to benefit area community organizations during the firm’s annual 2015 Community Service Week, June 1 to June 5.

“Greenberg Traurig has a longstanding commitment to public service, and our attorneys and staff look forward to participating in Community Service Week every year,” said Caroline J. Heller, head of pro bono and community service for the New York office. “We partner with local organizations to improve the lives of people in need in a way that is truly rewarding.”

The firm will launch Community Service Week Monday, June 1, with a lunch discussion titled, “In Your Neighborhood: The Insidiousness of Human Trafficking.” Greenberg Traurig Equal Justice Works’ Holly Skolnick Fellows, along with the director of anti-trafficking advocacy at Sanctuary for Families, will discuss the personal toll of human trafficking as well as highlight pro bono opportunities. The firm provides funding through the Greenberg Traurig Holly Skolnick Fellowship Foundation to recent law school graduates pursuing a career in public interest. Through the Foundation, Greenberg Traurig serves as the largest sponsor of Equal Justice Works Fellowships in the United States and since 1999, the firm has invested more than $8 million to support, in whole or in part, 127 Equal Justice Works Fellows.

On Tuesday, volunteers from the firm will spend time with residents of the Northern Manhattan Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, a continuing health care facility that provides individualized quality care to residents.

On Wednesday, Greenberg Traurig volunteers will read and participate in recreational exercise and arts and crafts projects with the children who use Henry Street Settlement’s youth program. Henry Street Settlement provides opportunities to New Yorkers using a variety of methods, including the arts, social services, and health care. Additionally, on Wednesday, Greenberg Traurig will participate in the 3.5 mile J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge. The run benefits charitable groups in each of the 13 event cities in seven countries on five continents. Approximately $2 million total has been provided to not-for-profit organizations in Corporate Challenge markets the past three years. The 2015 New York City chapter beneficiary is the Central Park Conservancy.

On Thursday, volunteers will support the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco) by watering, weeding, and building new compost bins for Intervale Green’s rooftop farm. WHEDco has worked for 20 years to build a more beautiful, equitable and economically vibrant Bronx.

Community Service Week will conclude Friday afternoon with a closing reception.
