ThreatMetrix Releases Its Latest ThreatMetrix Labs Report at AusCERT2015 Conference in Australia
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) June 02, 2015 -- ThreatMetrix®, the fastest-growing provider of context-based security and advanced fraud prevention solutions, announces it will exhibit at the AusCERT2015 conference today through this Friday, June 5 at the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Gold Coast, Australia. ThreatMetrix is a Silver Sponsor at the 14th annual Australian security conference.
In addition to exhibiting and sponsoring, ThreatMetrix will be passing out copies of the latest ThreatMetrix® Labs report, “How Successful Are Targeted Phishing Attacks? A Real-World Example” written by Andreas Baumhof, chief technology officer, ThreatMetrix. This month’s report focuses on the amount of personal information that a high quality campaign can unearth and how easy it is for fraudsters to complement this data with readily available data sources from data breaches and social media websites. The report is available here.
“We approached this report with the thought, ‘As a fraudster, what can I expect from a targeted phishing attack?’ – and the answer is, a lot,” said Baumhof. “First of all, it was mind-blowingly easy to remove all fake submissions with a few simple rules. Additionally, we’ve been able to confirm 92 percent of the data by using publicly available data sources and social media sites – highlighting the fact that we share more personal information than ever before. Another astonishing insight was that IP geolocation is surprisingly accurate. In more than 50 percent of the cases, the distance between the home address and the IP address used was less than 10 miles.”
The AusCERT2015 Conference is the largest and oldest information security conference in Australia. The conference offers attendees a chance to discuss IT security issues, network with industry peers, see the latest in IT security products and services, and enjoy the beautiful Gold Coast. The theme for this year’s conference is “Smarten Up” – which explores the need to smarten up to better manage information security risks. AusCERT is the premier Computer Emergency Response Team for Australia and provides computer information security advice to the Australian public and its members.
In addition to participating as a Silver Sponsor at AusCERT, ThreatMetrix will be exhibiting throughout the duration of the conference at booth S33. Attendees may visit the booth to see demonstrations of the ThreatMetrix Digital Identity Network, which brings together all aspects of a person’s online devices and behavior into one unique digital identity, and other ThreatMetrix technology that will be on hand.
“AusCERT is one of the biggest security conferences in Australia and we are thrilled to be exhibiting and sponsoring to show our support for the security sector here in Australia and all over the world,” said Baumhof. “I’m very happy to release our latest Labs report at the conference and contribute to the ‘Smarten Up’ motto with some real-world research – for the benefit or protecting digital identities in a global world.
