“We were looking for a more expansive space to allow us to showcase more of Mushmina’s home products, host events, and also have room for an in-house design studio,” says Katie O’Neill Mushina’s creative director

Mushmina will inaugurate their new boutique this Thursday, June 4th from 5-8 p.m. at the Grand Opening Reception at 164 E. Lancaster Ave, Wayne. Cocktails, music, and henna will entertain guests as they peruse the custom designed accessories and racks of sustainable fashion carefully curated by Katie and the Mushmina team.
Mushmina custom designs their own brand of handbags, scarves, and jewelry made in collaboration with artisans in Morocco; currently sold to over 150 retailers internationally. The sisters work directly with their team in Morocco to produce two new collections a year, giving artisans the opportunity to sell their goods on a global market. Mushmina boutiques also house a global collection of other sustainable brands including Ace+ Jig from India, Prairie Underground from Seattle, and jewelry from Turkey and Kenya.
Mushmina is off to a great start in their new neighborhood as the Mother’s Day soft opening was a success. “We were looking for a more expansive space to allow us to showcase more of Mushmina’s home products, host events, and also have room for an in-house design studio, but we had no idea we would end up in Wayne,” says Katie O’Neill, Mushina’s creative director. Katie is a graduate of the 10,000 Small Businesses Program sponsored by Goldman Sachs and it was the 10KSB program that challenged her to think outside of the box in positioning Mushmina for growth. “We are thrilled to have found this beautiful and supportive community,” says Katie. "The word among the neighbors is that the community loves to support small businesses and that Wayne was ready for something new."
Mushmina made this move after spending three years in their first retail location on Philadelphia’s South Street. “We are so grateful for our customers and the community on South Street,” says Heather. “We hope our neighbors and fans make the short trip outside the city to see us in our new space on the Main Line.”
The sisters have a larger, long-term strategy that extends beyond the Philadelphia area. Katie and Heather say they are just getting started in their quest to make Mushmina into a global fashion label. Our goal is to open multiple locations in order for Mushmina to be recognized as a global retailer and pioneer of sustainable fashion.
Mushmina is a fashion and design company with a social mission that began with two sisters, Heather and Katie O’Neill, living and traveling in Morocco and Mali. They started Mushmina to translate the impeccable craftsmanship and vision of local artisans to the global market. Their mission is to create beautiful inspired products that have cultural integrity and soul. Through the sale of uniquely stylish, handmade fair-trade clothing and accessories, Mushmina creates employment opportunities for women and men in developing countries.
