US Speedskating (USS) has named Matt Whewell as the organization's Communications Director effective immediately.

Whewell, 29, joins USS after most recently serving as Communications Manager for the Colorado Rockies. No stranger to the Olympic movement, he was the public relations and Digital Communications Coordinator for USA Swimming from 2011-13, serving as a press officer for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team in London. Additionally, he was a media relations assistant with the Cleveland Indians from 2009-11, a media relations trainee for the Atlanta Braves (2008) and communications intern for the Cleveland Browns during the 2007 season.

“USS is delighted to have Matt joining our team. His strong background in professional sports combined with his Olympic and National Governing Body experience make him a perfect fit for the Communications Director role with USS,” said Ted Morris, Executive Director of USS. “Matt will be an important part of our Team as we head to the 2018 Olympic Games in Korea.”

“I’m honored to join US Speedskating at this very exciting time for the sport,” Whewell said. “I look forward to getting to know everyone associated with one of the elite National Governing Bodies - the staff, athletes, members, alumni and volunteers. With a very talented team already in place, I can’t wait for us to tell US Speedskating’s story.”

The Garfield Heights, Ohio native graduated from The University of Akron in 2007 with a Bachelors of Science in Sports Studies.
