UIEvolution Announces Support For GENIVI Alliance’s SmartDeviceLink (SDL)
Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) June 02, 2015 -- UIEvolution, Inc., a global leader in highly scalable connected device software platforms for Enterprise companies in the Automotive, Hospitality, and Cruise industries, is proud to announce its support of SmartDeviceLink (SDL), an open-source version of Ford AppLink, contributed to the GENIVI Alliance and hosted on Github. Connecting smartphone apps to automotive infotainment systems, SDL fosters an open automotive app community and a unified approach for smartphone app developers to deliver their apps to connected cars in a safe and auto-friendly way.
SDL sets forth to standardize and make consistent delivery of applications to the many in-vehicle interfaces existing in the automotive vertical today. The end goal is to provide an expandable software framework to both mobile application developers and automotive head unit manufacturers that enable the creation of brought-in applications to seamlessly integrate into head units produced by leading automotive Tier 1 suppliers.
"Livio is pleased to have industry leaders such as UIEvolution involved and participating in the SDL open source project. Their added support strengthens the SDL project and furthers its progress of becoming a standard for in-car connectivity."
“We are excited to announce our support of SDL as a part of our industry leading automotive solution,” said Chris Ruff, CEO and president of UIEvolution. “The fragmentation of the automotive industry, while supporting two smartphone ecosystems, brings with it many challenges for app developers, particularly in the automotive vertical. Finding a way to have all of these technologies work together in one industry standard solution has been a problem. SmartDeviceLink provides a single method for safely developing and deploying one app on all SDL supported head units.”
“Being a global company, UIEvolution is extremely proud to support SDL, as it is being supported in many countries worldwide,” said Koji Hosaka, President of UIEvolution K.K. and GM of Automotive BU worldwide. “With this framework, developers will be more successful in developing applications for the connected car market that will work across multiple car manufacturers. Using SDL, OEM’s can create and adapt mobile applications for in-car use both quickly and cost effectively.”
UIEvolution will integrate SDL into its entire automotive platform including the UIEngine in-car app middleware UIEngine Link smartphone connectivity technology, as well as its cloud-based UIE CloudConnect platform. Since its entrance into the automotive market in 2008, UIEvolution has provided its software technology for millions of in-vehicle systems worldwide, supplying some of the world’s largest automotive OEM and Tier 1 manufacturers including Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Clarion, Panasonic and others.
