The San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival, the leading film festival in North America dedicated entirely to ocean related films, announces March 10 - 13, 2016 for the 13th Annual SFIOFF event. Returning to Cowell Theater in Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, the festival will feature more than 45 ocean inspiring independent films from around the world.

Launched in 2004, the festival is dedicated to using film as a medium to increase public awareness of the environmental, social and cultural importance of marine ecosystems and foster a spirit of ocean stewardship.

“With the San Francisco Bay as our backdrop, we’re excited to announce the dates for our thirteenth consecutive year of bringing the best independent ocean films from around the world to the big screen. We’re thrilled to be returning to Cowell Theater and look forward to hosting a variety of film subject matter and opportunities for festival goers to learn more about the world’s ocean, marine life, ocean sports, and current conservation and social issues related to the ocean,” said Executive Director Ana Blanco.

The four-day festival will feature films from an international array of filmmakers and is organized as a series of programs that feature riveting ocean related films and in-depth discussions with filmmakers and content experts, creating a unique public forum on the environmental, social and cultural importance of the world’s ocean and marine resources. In addition to the thousands who will attend the film programs, the festival will be hosting an extensive free education program that reaches nearly 1,000 middle school and high school students, as well as the 5th Annual Student Film Competition for students in 6th – 12th grade.

The San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival will open the Call for Submissions for films on July 1, 2015. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2015. Seeking ocean related films that educate, entertain or inspire, the festival accepts films from any genre – documentary, narrative, short, or animation – of any length. Entry information and more festival details are available at http://www.oceanfilmfest.org.
