Millions From One has put shoes on and provided clean water to about 2 million needy children in 46 countries, and they have their sites set on millions more over the next 5 years.

After impacting more than 1.8 million people in 46 countries, Millions From One, a small non-profit organization in Southlake, Texas, has gained access to another country in critical need. Millions From One succeeded in registering in Burundi where they plan on installing more than 150 wells, with the help of current and future partners. This will help the water deprived country to find a small source of peace and wellbeing amidst political chaos.
Burundi is at high risk for infectious disease, affecting the quality of living for everyday livelihood. The country has been documented by the CIA World Factbook as a very high risk for major infectious diseases such as bacterial and protozoal diarrhea, hepatitis A, typhoid fever and schistosomiasis, each contracted through contaminated water sources. The installation of at least 150 wells will hopefully immensely decrease the risk for these kinds of diseases. However, Millions From One does not want to stop here.
The Burundi population is also at a very high risk for diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. Wearing closed footwear combats these kinds of diseases. It is little known that many of the world’s poor must walk where they go, many barefoot. This attributes to a yearly global death toll of over one million children who die from diseases caused by lack of proper shoes.
Millions From One has already distributed as many shoes as possible within Burundi, but hopes to hand out over 300,000 shoes total. They also ensure proper hygiene education as part of their outreach. However their reach can only go as far as their partners extend. As high as the goals for Millions From One are, they need more partners to reach their goals in Burundi.
One at a time, they have changed the lives of millions in desperate situations, but have only just scratched the surface in terms of identifiable need. There are many more shoes to be distributed and people that need water desperately.
