Spanish survivors often experience greater fear and isolation with this diagnosis. We want to share this. The translation and new introduction will allow Strength & Courage to reach even more breast cancer survivors.
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) June 10, 2015
Strength & Courage: Exercises for Breast Cancer Survivors is a nationally recognized exercise program that strives to enhance women’s ability to lead active lives after breast cancer treatment. Dr. Sharon Cowden, physician and breast cancer survivor, and Janette Poppenberg an ACSM/ACS certified Cancer Exercise Trainer, co-founded this non-profit effort. They are pleased to announce Strength & Courage DVD will be available in Spanish by October 2015.
“We received a generous donation from a private donor to fund a translation of the DVD and film a new introduction with Hispanic survivors relating their experiences with breast cancer,” said Dr. Cowden. “Spanish survivors often experience greater fear and isolation with this diagnosis. We want to share this.” The translation and new introduction will allow Strength & Courage to reach even more breast cancer survivors to help them regain physical and emotional strength.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Hispanic women. An estimated 17,100 Hispanic women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 alone according to Cancer Facts & Figures for Hispanics/Latinos.
Crowd Funding Awareness
Strength & Courage is looking towards its robust Facebook community to raise funds and awareness.
“We are asking our Facebook followers and past users of the exercise program to spread the word and consider donating a small amount to make the exercise program available to Hispanic survivors and their health care providers at treatment centers,” Cowden said.
Strength & Courage has established a fundraising campaign on its Facebook page. The goal is to raise $25,000 for reproduction of 3,000 DVDs for doctors who serve Spanish speaking patients. Strength & Courage will also use the funds for outreach to the Hispanic medical community, to translate sections of the website and add a Spanish downloadable file.
The Spanish translation will be available for purchase in October for $20. Five dollars from each sale goes to the Breast Cancer Research and Education Fund at Magee-Womens Institute & Foundation in Pittsburgh.
Since release of the DVD in 2008, Strength & Courage has distributed more than 20,000 copies worldwide. To learn more about Strength& Courage: Exercises for Breast Cancer Survivors, visit http://www.strengthandcourage.net.
