Greene Skirts has opened its doors for business. Greene Skirts is a startup that helps truck drivers obtain skirts at no cost which reduce semi-trucks’ carbon footprint and increase their safety.

The idea is to put an advertiser’s logo and basic information (website URL, phone number, slogan, a QR Code that can be scanned with a smartphone, etc.) on a skirt so that others sharing the road view that message. At a time when brands are looking for innovative ways to be heard above the noise and consumers are able to tune out traditional media advertising because of DVRs and other disruptive technologies, the imprinted truck skirts are essentially mobile billboards that are impossible to ignore.

The company was started by CEO Dena Greene Jackson, an environmentalist originally from Kentucky. Prior to launching her business, she worked in the freight industry. From that experience, she knew that “skirts” (the panels mounted between wheels on the underside of trailers) can save drivers an average of 640 gallons of gasoline per year. She also understood that the trucks travel around 100,000 miles in a year, with over-the-road drivers amassing 600 miles per day on average.

Most truck drivers lack the skirts because even though they save on fuel costs in the long-term, they represent a major investment in the short term. “They can be expensive,” Jackson said. “Greene Skirts offers skirts to truck drivers at no cost to them by imprinting advertising of regional and national brands.”

With the company’s logo, artwork and message fresh on his or her mind, the driver decides to stop at an upcoming exit to dine at one of the restaurant’s locations,” Jackson said.

Greene Skirts equips its advertisers with the means to track where trucks with their branding are at any given moment, ensuring that their investment pays off with actual exposure across a wide swath of the nation’s roadways. The trailers can be tailored to match where the advertiser wants exposure be it regional or national.

Jackson, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has been an avid environmentalist her whole life wanted to launch the business because of the positive environmental impact and increased road safety. All trailers can be skirted through their program and advertisers will have an effective medium to get their messages across. Greene Skirts also donates a percentage of its skirt space to charitable organizations.

“It is very important to make a significant green impact. There’s also the matter of safety. These skirts make the trailer more aerodynamic, which, in turn, makes the trailer more stable. They also reduce spray onto nearby traffic,” Jackson said.
