Florida Senator Marco Rubio Opposes Marijuana Legalization
Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- Marco Rubio, a Republican candidate for president, has recently spoken out against marijuana legalization, according to The Guardian on June 9th. Rubio asserts the federal laws deeming marijuana illegal nationally should be upheld by the Obama administration, instead of being left up for states to decide. The Guardian quotes the Florida senator: “I don’t believe we should be in the business of legalizing additional intoxicans in this country, for the primary reason that when you legalize something, you’re sending a message to young people [that] it can’t be that bad, because if it was that bad, it wouldn’t be legal.”
Harbor Village Detox is a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center in South Florida. The detox and recovery center provides detox and rehabilitation treatment to clients with substance use disorders throughout the state of Florida and beyond. The facility appreciates Rubio’s stance on marijuana, as his concerns for public health and subsequent addiction to marijuana are evident in his statements.
An associate from the detox center comments, “Rubio’s stance on marijuana makes sense. I believe many people disregard alcohol as dangerous because it is legal. Marijuana legalization would probably play out the same way. His thoughtfulness as to how our younger generations would perceive a change in regulation for Florida is astute. His stance on medical marijuana is surprisingly open minded, as he wants to see the science behind it- as opposed to shooting it down right off the bat. That’s one of the main reasons I think Rubio is genuine in his concerns for legalizing recreational marijuana. Rubio doesn’t act on belief, but what is empirical about the addictive substance.”
