The US Army Transitions to Newest Model of Blast Gauge System
Rochester, NY (PRWEB) June 12, 2015 -- BlackBox Biometrics®, Inc. is proud to announce it has received a $9.4 million award to support the U.S. Army’s transition to the newest model of the Blast Gauge® System, Gen 6 (S2). This award follows successful completion of rigorous testing completed by the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) to qualify the new model.
The Blast Gauge System records a Servicemember's exposure to blast overpressure and acceleration forces capturing critical data to aid the triage and treatment of blast-related injuries such as traumatic brain injury. The system also enables advanced research into the mechanisms of these injuries and safe exposure levels. With the push of a button, the gauge emits a discreet visual cue, alerting unit medics and leadership when further evaluation is required. A micro-USB connection allows for detailed data to be downloaded and analyzed by medical personnel.
The Gen 6 model is a functional revision of the already robust Blast Gauge System platform and features a new high-g accelerometer that can measure ±200 g in three axes, capturing a more advanced picture of blast exposure through the accelerations Servicemembers experience during a blast. The Gen 6 also integrates advanced ultra-low power electronics extending average battery life by 25%, reducing waste and logistic burdens.
“This order further demonstrates BlackBox Biometrics’ capability of adapting to meet new customer requirements, providing advanced features to the Blast Gauge System,” says Joe Bridgeford, President. “Our Engineering team did a brilliant job applying leading edge technology to bring this next generation model to the battlefield for the purpose of identifying our brave men and women who may be at risk of traumatic brain injury.”
A continuation of prior contracts awarded to BlackBox Biometrics, this most recent award brings the total contract value to approximately $16.4 million. Deliveries of the new Gen 6 model will begin in July 2015 and continue through June 2016. Production and final assembly will take place in BlackBox Biometrics’ Rochester, NY facility.
