J. Walter Thompson Company today announces a strategic partnership with Hirschen Group, one of Germany’s leading independent agency groups. This follows WPP’s acquisition – subject to regulatory approval – of a significant minority stake in the Hirschen Group.

The WPP investment allows the J. Walter Thompson Company to further strengthen its offering in a significant European market.

The partnership also gives the Hirschen Group access to J. Walter Thompson’s expansive network and resources, allowing it to invest in further communications disciplines, and develop its partner strategy and agency brands while accelerating its growth plans, in Germany and across Europe.

The Hirschen Group has more than 500 employees across nine offices. Hirschen’s agencies include Zum Goldenen Hirschen, its market-leading advertising agency which recently won the coveted MediaMarkt account – one of the biggest in Germany. Other successful businesses include Ressourcenmangel, Freunde des Hauses and 365 Sherpas.

The existing team will continue to manage Hirschen Group, which will maintain its independent positioning.
