“The Challenges of the Next Generation" – What Keeps You Awake at Night” was the subject of a closed-door family office roundtable session led by Mack International Founder and President Linda Mack, at the Opal Financial Group European Family Office & Institutional Investment Forum, held June 3-4 at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Linda Mack, founder and president of Mack International presented a closed-door family office roundtable session: “The Challenges of the Next Generation" – What Keeps You Awake at Night” at the Opal Financial Group European Family Office & Institutional Investment Forum, held June 3-4 at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The conference is one of Opal’s premier events for high-net-worth individuals and family offices in Europe. Some of the most well-established family offices, private investors, money managers and private wealth service providers attend for two days of engaging discussions on the latest investment trends, networking and peer-to-peer sharing of best practices for current and future generations of families.

On Thursday, June 4, Mack co-facilitated the closed-door breakfast family session with Sandy Loder, Founder and CEO of AH Loder Advisors, that specifically discussed challenges encountered when planning for and working to prepare the next generation of family members for success. This session was open only to family members, family office executives and private investors, allowing for rich peer-to-peer exchanges highly valued by the participants.

“We discussed key considerations and best practice concepts for how to engage the next generation and groom leaders for the future, including when to start next generation education and how to foster a personal drive for achievement and entrepreneurship in the rising generations,” Mack said.

“Families are keenly focused on issues that may impact long-term sustainability and effective strategies for succession,” Mack said. “We had a very interactive discussion regarding experiences that next generation family members need in order to become responsible stewards, and where and how to get those experiences, as well as how families can effectively navigate the fine line between empowerment and entitlement.”

“Every family and family office is unique, and the sharing of best practices, personal stories and examples resulted in a very engaged and informative session,” Mack added.

Other Forum sessions also explored the challenges and opportunities associated with investing in emerging markets, alternative investments, real estate and numerous other asset classes. Sessions also addressed many other key issues related to the family office such asset protection, philanthropy and structuring a family office, among others.
