The Emerging River Professional Award is an opportunity for individuals working to protect and restore rivers around the world to receive recognition. Three finalists will present their work in Brisbane, Australia, at the International RiverFoundation's annual international conference, and one awardee will receive a cash prize of $4000 to celebrate his or her achievement.

Early career scientists, managers, and activists working to restore and protect rivers around the globe are eligible to win AU$4000. The Emerging River Professional Award (ERPA) is an initiative of the International RiverFoundation. Awarded for the first time in 2014, the ERPA been established to recognise and foster those in the first 10 years of their careers in rivers.

The ERPA identifies and rewards individuals in the early stages of their careers who have demonstrated innovation, excellence and leadership in river, basin or river-dependent community management. Whilst teams are essential in all facets of river management, this award focuses on individual achievements and contribution, rewarding dedication, innovation and leadership.

In addition to prize money, finalists all present their work at the International RiverSymposium, a high-level international conference that will be held this year in Brisbane, Australia.

Award recipient, Oghenekaro Nelson Odume, conducted trans-disciplinary research practice in South Africa that places ethics and value systems at the centre of research, recognising river basin as a complex social-ecological system. "The ERPA is a unique opportunity for early and mid-career professionals to showcase their research on a global platform; and the Riversymposium is a melting pot of diverse thoughts, ideas and practices for managing our precious water resources sustainably. It truly places you among the global leaders in the field and has opened up different collaborative opportunities for me.”

The award is open internationally to all river professionals who have been working in their field for ten years or less, and have demonstrated exceptional and measurable achievements in rivers, basins or river-dependent communities. A wide range of professionals contribute to the future of our rivers and this award is open to professionals of all disciplines – whether scientists, policy makers or on-ground river managers.

ERPA finalists will present the outcomes of their work at the International Riversymposium in Brisbane, and the winner will be announced during the Riverprize Gala Dinner on Tuesday 22 September, 2015.

If you feel that you have undertaken excellent work in this area, submit an application for this prestigious award and let your achievements and passion speak for themselves.

The International Riversymposium is proud to partner with OceanaGold Corporation and International WaterCentre Alumni Network (IWCAN) to sponsor the 2015 Emerging River Professional Award.
