Every day, jail staff and corrections officers are faced with many critical decisions that can lead to potential on-the-job mistakes with reverberating consequences. An improperly handled issue or an overlooked situation in the jail can result in damaged careers, job termination, civil action, or even criminal prosecution. These situations can also negatively impact the well-being of inmates and violate the public trust. Almost all corrections pitfalls fit into these three key categories: 1) Misusing power 2) Not handling pressure well 3) Not meeting job responsibilities. Training and preparation are the best way for corrections officers and jail staff to avoid these pitfalls.
Attendees to this webinar will learn:
• Understand the basic, professional aspects of being a jail officer
• The consequences of mistakes that are made in three key areas: power, pressure and responsibility.
• Five common sense guidelines to avoid the pitfalls
Who should attend this webinar?
• Jail or corrections officers
• Jail or corrections supervisors
• Sworn line staff
• Civilian personnel working inside a jail environment
