The ECN Impact Awards are sponsored by ECN Magazine to recognize the products and services that had the most noteworthy influence on the electronics components industry in 2014. Acopian won in the category of Social Corporate Responsibility. The 90,000-square-foot Acopian Engineering Center is funded by the late Sarkis Acopian and his wife Bobbye. Sarkis is the founder of Acopian Power Supplies and graduated from Lafayette College in 1951 with a BS in mechanical engineering. Acopian Power Supplies also won the 2014 ECN Impact Award in the Power Sources and Conditioning category for its 1U 750W AC-DC Power Supply family.
“Everyone at Acopian, as well as the entire Acopian Family, is excited to have won the 2015 ECN Impact Award,” stated Alex Karapetian, director of sales and marketing of Acopian Power Supplies, and nephew of the Acopian family. “The Acopian Engineering Center is testament to our ongoing commitment to honor my uncle's philanthropic legacy by championing students who wish to pursue careers in engineering, and realize the 'American Dream.' We are honored to be acknowledged for our dedication to the quality of engineering undergraduate education, and support of programs that increase retention and recruitment,” he concluded.
The Acopian Engineering Center houses laboratories specifically for student-faculty research, classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art instructional technology, and student learning centers customized to the specific requirements of each engineering program and department. Included are learning centers focusing on chemical and biomolecular engineering, civil and environmental engineering, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical engineering.
At the Acopian Engineering Center, students are equipped with the skill set necessary to define and influence the future of their fields. Faculty and students collaborate on independent studies and research, including projects undertaken through the EXCEL Scholars undergraduate research program. EXCEL Scholars helped build Microsoft's consumer Cloud, won awards from the National Science Foundation, received a Goldwater Scholarship, were awarded an Udall Scholarship, and presented research to the American Society for Cell Biology.
