Tatweer Holding Company To Work With Perkins School for the Blind
Riyadh, KSA (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- In keeping with the special education goals and strategies of the Tatweer Education Holding Company (THC) and with the direction and guidance of Dr. Azzam bin Mohammed Al-Dakhil, Minister of Education in Saudi Arabia, THC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Perkins School for the Blind of Watertown, Massachusetts, USA.
A strategic investment company headquartered in Riyadh, THC provides core and support educational services. It was established by Royal Decree from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
This investment launches the first national training program for teachers who educate children who are blind or deafblind, including those with additional disabilities, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The program targets as many as 90 educators and administrators in the Kingdom. In addition, 20 top professionals from Saudi Arabia will participate in a hands-on training experience on the Perkins campus in Massachusetts, USA.
According to Dr. Saud Abdullah Ben Khudair, CEO of THC, the aim of the new initiative is to support special education programs of the Kingdom’s Ministry of Education. The company expects to conduct these training courses throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Perkins School for the Blind President and CEO Dave Power notes that working in cooperation with THC will enhance the expertise of educators in the Kingdom and, by extension, build greater opportunities for the children they teach. Perkins has a decades-long history of training teachers around the world, and each year welcomes leading educators to its campus for in-depth exchange of knowledge and techniques to use in the classroom. Worldwide, the World Health Organization estimates that 19 million children are visually impaired, almost half of whom have additional disabilities.
Dr. Bin Khudair added that an important goal of the plan is to raise the bar for educators who teach children who are blind, deafblind and blind children with multi-disabilities. The trainings will enable teachers to reach this group of children using the best teaching practices. The ultimate goal is to empower students with life skills to free them from isolation so they can take part in society.
