Orange County Cosmetic Surgeon Releases Commentary on Social Media’s Effects on Cosmetic Procedures
Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) July 30, 2015 -- Dr. Kevin Sadati, a board certified facial plastic surgeon specializing in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, recently released his commentary regarding the correlation between increased demand and today’s social media trends.
First impressions have long been considered important, but in the social media age first impressions come in the form of selfies through social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. This social media trend of countless selfies has enabled users of the platforms to put the personal appearance of those posting under a microscope, causing an increased demand for cosmetic procedures. This is especially true for those under the age of 30.
“Camera lens quality today is unlike ever before,” Dr. Sadati explained. “Most cameras can pick up every tiny imperfection you may have, and many Millennials have started to use cosmetic surgery as a way to enhance or correct their appearance based on how they look in their selfies. Filters and programs like Photoshop make it easy to remove imperfections you may find in your photo. With a simple swipe of the mouse, a scar that has been with you for years can just vanish in your selfie. People see something like that and realize they can look like that with the help of a cosmetic surgeon.”
A report from earlier this year released by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery highlighted the strong influence that selfies have on the decision for plastic surgery. According to the report, there was a large increase in requests for aesthetic procedures due to selfies. The report showed that in 2014, people between the ages of 22 and 34 made up the majority of patients who had Rhinoplasty performed. BOTOX ® was most performed on a slightly older age group, 35- to 55-year-olds. The report also noted that women made up 82 percent of all procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, performed in 2014.
Newport Beach cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Sadati added that while he always wants to meet his patients expectations, it is sometimes best to make subtle changes in order to enhance the natural beauty that already exists. “I want my patients to see that perfection isn’t always possible, but by making a few small changes you can see big results.”
