Hope For The Warriors® Hosts Military & Veteran Caregiver Wellness Workshop
Lorton, VA (PRWEB) June 24, 2015 -- Hope For The Warriors® hosted its second Military Caregiver Wellness Workshop on June 9 in Lorton, Virginia. The workshop was open to military caregivers of post-9/11 service members or veterans who have been physically or psychologically wounded. Hope For The Warriors® is a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
“We feel that an increase in self-care activities has the potential to improve a caregiver’s physical and psychological well-being,” said Dana Thompson, Clinical Social Worker with Hope For The Warriors®. “We were excited to present another Wellness Workshop that provided caregivers with new ideas and tools for empowerment, mindfulness and self-care.”
The one-day workshop focused on self-care and mindfulness practices for military caregivers. Activities included art therapy, therapeutic yoga with a focus on relaxation and breathing techniques, future planning, and share time with other military caregivers. Caregivers can include spouses, parents, children, partners, siblings, and friends. Many caregivers from the first Hope For The Warriors® Military & Veteran Caregiver Wellness Workshop in February also participated in this one.
Organizing the event were Thompson, Tricia Winklosky, and Patti Katter from Hope For The Warriors®. Winklosky is the Clinical Health & Wellness Director with Hope For The Warriors® and Katter is a military caregiver who works with Hope For The Warriors® as the Veteran & Military Caregiver Program Coordinator.
“It’s a very powerful thing to watch military and veterans connect with one another,” said Katter. “Many caregivers walk in the door of our workshop feeling lonely and overwhelmed, but by the time they leave – they are leaving with new friends, new resources and new hope.”
