Everyone knows that drinking adequate fresh water each day is important to health. But not everyone realizes that how one drinks their daily water can substantially affect the water’s absorption and health benefit. Fresh water advocate and radio host Sharon Kleyne, in an upcoming broadcast, will present several drinking water tips to make sure one’s daily water is fully absorbed. During the ongoing drought in California and other Western states, consuming water efficiently will not only improve health, it will help conserve scarce water.

Based on Kleyne’s research discoveries, the following suggestions will help obtain the best drinking water benefit for absorption, hydration and health.
While most doctors recommend eight glasses, or 64 ounces a day, Kleyne regards this as the absolute minimum. She suggests ten glasses or 80 ounces a day, noting that everyone’s daily water needs differ.
There are differing medical opinions on whether liquids containing water can be counted towards the daily drinking water requirement. Kleyne has concluded that 100% of a person’s daily water consumption should be in the form of pure water. “Remember,” says Kleyne, “the human body is 70% water and every one of the body’s 50 trillion cells requires pure fresh water to survive and function.”
Other liquids containing fresh water, Kleyne has discovered, also offer a health benefit even though they would not count towards the daily drinking water requirement. As a rule, the heavier and more opaque the liquid, the less the nutritional benefit and the greater the drinking water benefit. Apple juice for example, is superior to tomato juice as far as water absorption, even though tomato juice is more nutritious. By the same reasoning, pure water is better to drink than vitamin fortified water or heavy mineral water.
Coffee, alcohol, heavily sugared and carbonated beverages should be consumed in moderation or avoided because they are dehydrating and may actually cause the body to lose water.
The best drinking water for absorption, retention and hydration is obtained when the water is consumed at room temperature or slightly warmer. Ice water is likely to quickly pass through the body, with less absorption. This does not mean that iced drinks should be avoided; in hot weather, it can be effective in cooling an overheated body. For those concerned about consuming water before bed, drinking the water warm will lessen the chances of having to get up later on.
At least 32 ounces of a person’s daily fresh water should be consumed all at once. Kleyne recommends two full glasses of water or 16 ounces, upon first getting up and another two full glasses in the afternoon.
Pouring the water into a glass before drinking increases oxygen content, taste and health benefit.
If the body is dehydrated due to illness, strenuous exercise or sun exposure, water consumption should be increased accordingly.
Water evaporation out of the body surface and into the atmosphere increases in warm dry weather and can result in skin, eyes and body dehydration. Kleyne suggests application of a water mist near the eyes and skin to slow the evaporation rate. That is the intended purpose of the products Nature’s Tear® EyeMist® and Nature’s Mist®, from Kleyne’s Bio-Logic Aqua® Research.
