Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan Proclaims June 26 “Alaska Communications’ Summer of Heroes Day”
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (PRWEB) June 26, 2015 -- This week Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan declared June 26 “Alaska Communications’ Summer of Heroes Day” in the City of Anchorage. Mayor Sullivan issued the proclamation to representatives from Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska during a visit to the Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska Woodland Park Clubhouse Wednesday, June 24.
As part of Summer of Heroes Day, Mayor Sullivan encouraged all citizens to do something big or small to make a positive difference in the life of another. A previous Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska employee, Mayor Sullivan emphasized the importance of supporting youth programs that provide a safe, positive environment to help youth succeed. Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska offers these types of programs at the Woodland Park Clubhouse and many other Clubhouses throughout Alaska. He also asked the community to recognize those who are making a difference by nominating a young hero during the 2015 Summer of Heroes program.
Celebrating its five-year anniversary in 2015, Summer of Heroes is a partnership program between Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska to promote awareness and support for youth development programs throughout Alaska. Youth heroes are nominated by family members, coaches, mentors and friends for making a positive difference in their communities. Five selected heroes, plus one from the Employee Program, will receive a $1,500 scholarship and a trip to the 2015 recognition ceremony at the Alaska State Fair.
Nominations for the Summer of Heroes program will be accepted until July 15, 2015 at 5 p.m. AKDT. Anyone who is interested in nominating outstanding youth can do so today at http://www.AlaskaCommunications.com/SummerofHeroes.
