American Academy of Adoption Attorneys says decision provides for the protection of children adopted or born into gay and lesbian families.

The American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and the American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology Attorneys are gratified by the child friendly opinion embracing marriage equality, issued by the United States Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s decision recognizes the dignity of all families and provides for the protection of children adopted or born into gay and lesbian families.

The decision will allow all children to have legally recognized parents in every state and will ensure that children living with their lesbian or gay parents will have secure and permanent relationships with them. Gay and lesbian parents will no longer be prohibited from establishing legally protected relationships with the children they love and raise. We applaud this important decision.
