St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) July 01, 2015 -- Following the success of its first hiring event, Ferguson 1000 has announced a second technology-focused hiring event to be held on July 18, 2015 at the Ferguson Community Center. Ferguson 1000’s February 28th event yielded eight on-the-spot hires and more than 30 interviews by 17 companies.
The tremendous traction St. Louis has achieved in the technology sector guided Ferguson 1000’s decision to hold a hiring event that has a section toward tech jobs. This past year, St. Louis topped the list of “Best Startup Cities in America” by Popular Mechanics. In another article published by Forbes, St. Louis ranked as one of the top U.S. cities for tech jobs, with average tech salaries of $93,000.
Those gains, however, are not being felt equitably across the St. Louis region. Demand for technology workers far outweighs local supply, despite a 10.4% unemployment rate among African-American men over 20 in St. Louis. Ferguson 1000 seeks to help connect minorities with relevant tech positions and increase minority presence in the field.
"Our company grew from 28 employees to 35 employees in 2014,” said Gabe Lozano, co-founder and CEO of LockerDome, which will participate in the July 18th hiring event. “By the third quarter of this year, we expect headcount to surpass 50 employees, with room to add even more later in the year. Technology companies like LockerDome can only benefit by hiring from a diverse talent pool.”
Ferguson 1000 founder Dave Spence said, "St. Louis has a wide range of employment opportunities, and it is our goal to assist employers in finding qualified applicants. Technology is one of the sectors we are focusing on, because the demand for tech workers is high and the jobs pay above-average wages. Filling these jobs with local talent helps the local economy twofold: by meeting tech companies’ demand for talent and by reducing unemployment.”
Ferguson 1000’s July 18th event will have vendors hiring for jobs from entry level to management. Although there will be a focus on technology, there will be jobs available in other sectors as well. With 40 companies confirmed to attend, the Ferguson 1000 Hiring Event is for Ferguson residents and the entire St Louis region.
