Eiteljorg Museum Selects Two Sorrel Sky Gallery Sculptors For Prestigious Exhibition
Durango, CO (PRWEB) July 07, 2015 -- Sorrel Sky Gallery is pleased to announce that Gerald Balciar and Greg Kelsey have been chosen to participate in Quest for the West, a prestigious western art show hosted by the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Quest for the West, celebrating its 10th anniversary, features the work by 50 important western artists from September 11 through October 11, 2015.
Gerald Balciar and Greg Kelsey, two Colorado artists long represented by Sorrel Sky Gallery, are familiar with Quest for the West – each has been included in the annual exhibition numerous times since the inaugural show in 2005.
Gerald Balciar’s animal sculptures are well known for their expressive qualities, portraying moods or feelings rather than exact replicas of his subjects. His art is grounded in an in-depth knowledge of animals, their behaviors and habitat. A small-scale bronze, "Trumpeter Pond", depicting a family of swimming Trumpeter swans, is one of his works included in the show. He offered, “It is an honor to be included among the high talent in the show – at a great museum for a great cause.”
Greg Kelsey knows his western subject matter intimately. With first-hand experience working daily on his ranch in a southwestern Colorado, Kelsey lives a traditional western lifestyle. One of the works to be displayed in the show is a study-size bronze, "Sundance & the Wild Bunch Hit the Union Pacific," which depicts the infamous hold up scene of the Union Pacific train portrayed in the Hollywood film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Sorrel Sky Gallery owner, Shanan Campbell Wells, is not surprised that these award-winning artists were invited. “Both Gerald and Greg are well-respected, dedicated artists,” Wells said.
