Integrating 3D Printing into the Product Development Process is the Focus of New SAE International Webcast
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) July 02, 2015 -- A new, free webcast presentation from SAE International will examine how 3D printing is becoming increasingly important with the increase in the pace of the construction industry.
“Integrating 3D Printing into the Product Development Process” is sponsored by Stratasys and hosted by SAE International. The presentation will be held Thursday, July 9 at 2 p.m. U.S. EDT.
Since efficiency is one of the most important things in the industry, this one-hour webcast will look at the process of 3D printing. Volvo Construction Equipment (CE) has embraced this into its work process. Equipped with a Stratasys Eden 260V, Volvo CE has the ability to create engine component prototypes that are mounted directly on the engine and then tested. Volvo CE also quickly builds 3D models of its new product concepts for stakeholders to get timely feedback, reducing risk and lead time in all development stages. This advantage gives Volvo CE the ability to make better project decisions throughout the development and production cycles.

• Tony den Hoed, Lead Engineer, Rotating Pipelayer Team, Volvo Construction Equipment – Mr. den Hoed has been in the construction industry for 18 years. For the last 13 years, he has been with Volvo Construction Equipment, working in a variety of capacities including product development, marketing, and sales support. As the local Innovation Coach, he helped acquire the 3D printer adopted into the product development process with the goal of reducing the product development cycle and cost.
• Matthew Wahler, Design Engineer for Product Development, Volvo Construction Equipment – Mr. Wahler has worked as a Design Engineer for the past three years, first in the Mechanical Engineering department and more recently on the Pipelayer Product Platform team. As one of the key users of the Eden 260V for Volvo CE, he has printed a number of models himself and has frequently overseen print projects.
• Jay Beversdorf, Application Engineer, Stratasys – Mr. Beversdorf works closely with clients to adopt and expand the uses of additive technology. With more than four years at Stratasys, he has developed strong technical expertise with a variety of 3D printing processes and systems, particularly in Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) applications and thermoplastic materials. Working closely with manufacturing companies, Mr. Beverskorf addresses the technical and process challenges companies face when translating traditional manufacturing methods into cost-effective and optimized additive manufacturing implementations.
