Fantasy Writer Scotty Sanders Chats with Ohio 8th Graders About Fantasy Book
Kettering, OH (PRWEB) July 02, 2015 -- On May 28, Texas-based author Scotty Sanders held an interactive Skype call with middle school students at St. Charles Borromeo School in Kettering, a suburb of Dayton, OH. The 53 students in Mrs. Denise DiFulvio Walker's 8th grade class spoke with Sanders, who wrote the speculative fiction novel "Quest of the Keys."
" Walker saw on the Quest of the Keys Facebook page that Sanders was available for Skype sessions and scheduled the “Meet the Author” session for her class. “Teens and preteens today want to read a book that is engaging,” said Sanders. “When you can combine that with character development principles with the potential to change lives, that’s a big win!”
The Ohio school uses the novel as part of their English Language Arts curriculum. The novel includes interactive elements designed to help young readers set goals and develop leadership skills. Following the interactive "Meet the Author" Skype session, teacher Denise Walker said she planned to recommend the book to other teachers in her community.
"Before graduation, the students wrote about mapping out their goals for the upcoming Freshman year in high school," Walker said. "This prompted many discussions about being true to one's self and the responsibilities we have to one another."
Sanders hopes the book will encourage younger generations to develop their personal potential, and believes classroom chats help further that goal. He's previously spoken in many states in the U.S. as well as Europe and Asia.
"When they’re able to connect with the author, a real person, and they can put a face to the name, connect the voice through the writing with an actual person, it makes a much stronger connection and a bigger impact on the kids," Sanders said. "I love every opportunity to speak to the next generation. I consider it an honor."
"Quest of the Keys" is Sander's debut novel and the first in a planned trilogy of middle school fantasy books. Sanders is currently working on the first sequel, which will be released sometime between 2016 and 2017.
