New SGS asbestos laboratory boosts capacity, expands services
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 6 July 2015 -- SGS United Kingdom Limited has opened a new, purpose-built asbestos laboratory in Consett, County Durham, to meet ever growing demand from customers in the UK and around the world. The Consett site has been redeveloped to offer a suite of laboratories, enabling SGS to offer the same excellent standards of quality, service and pricing to more customers, with room to improve efficiency and a range of services. SGS’ qualified and experienced analytical team are able to offer greater capacity, more efficient processing of samples and a wider range of services.
A SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
In tune with SGS principles for sustainable development, the new laboratory revitalised an old building on site, increasing its insulation, installing new energy efficient windows and state-of-the-art LED lighting throughout the building.
MARKET LEADERS IN ASBESTOS TESTING AND CONSULTANCY
SGS is one of a handful of UKAS laboratories delivering ISO 17025 accredited water absorption testing, used to separate asbestos cement from asbestos insulating board. This highly beneficial test can save customers substantial fees from the HSE-licensed asbestos removal contractors required for asbestos insulating board, but not for cement. Compared to the potential savings it can bring, the test is excellent value for money and is gradually gaining awareness in the market.
Third party fibre counting of asbestos air samples is proving a popular service with customers in the global market looking for ISO 17025 accredited Phase Contrast fibre counting to accreditation to complement their own field staff. This service makes asbestos work profitable for companies as a secondary business stream.
By autumn 2015, the services offered will expand to include UKAS ISO 17025 accredited analysis of soil samples for asbestos content (identification), with the option to add quantification of asbestos content when needed.
Jonathan Hall, UK Environmental Services Business Manager commented on the development:
“This new laboratory is a strong foundation on which to further develop SGS MIS Environmental Ltd as the leading asbestos consultant in the UK and support SGS’s global evolution into the largest provider of asbestos testing services in the world.”
