Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), EyeComTec (LAZgroup SA) announces a major update of its downloadable and affordable software solutions for Alternative and Augmentative Communication. The update allows patients suffering from mild to severe forms of paralysis or significantly impaired mobility to communicate almost effortlessly just by moving a finger, pressing a button or pedal, or making any visible or audible action.

EyeComTec’s software outstrips its competition. ECTkeyboard enables users to use quick, singular keystrokes to type complete phrases or texts. This is especially useful for those who have limited movement or tire quickly due to muscle weakness and fatigue. There is an option to type lengthy groups of text using simple shortened keystrokes on ECTkeyboard. Even when users are unable to move their hands, but they can control any other strong muscle such as their tongue, they will be able to operate a pedal wired directly to a button on ECTkeyboard to communicate.

If the patient is able to use only weak muscles such as a facial expressions, blinking an eye-lid or moving their lips, they can utilize ECTtracker, which is a unique facial expression & eye tracking software program that compares images with samples and analyzes the current state of the user’s eyes (open, closed, one eye opened). For example, based on the state of the eye the software transmits keyboard actions (press/release the space bar) to the receiving program such as ECTkeyboard, enabling the user to type messages simply by the opening and closing of the eyes.

EyeComTec’s third program, ECTlistener, recognises audible actions. Vocal sounds can take the place of muscle activity, allowing patients to communicate. These sounds can be a grunt, a moan, a whistle or click; as long as users can produce a sound, there is an option available to them. By combining ECTkeyboard with ECTlistener, technology has made it possible for these patients to create characters and otherwise complex words and phrases using only limited sounds.
