...but after learning more about Angela's House, and getting to know Bob in our two hour meeting, it became clear to all of us what the next steps would be.

Each year the Holiday Inn Westbury donates many of their services to a wide array of charitable organizations on a local, national and international level; however, the Holiday Inn now hosts one large event at the Hotel annually to benefit an organization they believe will have a high impact on the beneficiaries. In September of 2014 they hosted an event with all proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. They were able to raise approximately $3,000.00 from donations made by individual attendees the night of the event, which was a well planned and executed Hawaiian Luau themed reception.
On July 1, 2015 the Holiday Inn Westbury's management team had the great honor and privilege to meet with Mr. Bob Policastro, the Executive Director and founder of Angela's House. The Holiday Inn's team invited Bob to meet with them, as they wanted to explore the opportunity to host a fundraising event for Angela's House in September of 2015. It was the Holiday Inn's Director of Operations, Kushank Gupta that suggested the team meet with Bob, as he firmly believed that Angela's House would be just the right fit for us based upon his knowledge of the organization, and a brief meeting he had with Bob several years back. Kushank had spoken so highly of Bob and the organization that the team just needed to explore this as a viable option.
The Hotel's General Manager, Franklin Manchester stated, "It's never easy to select an organization to host a fundraising event for, because there are so many worthy organizations out there, but when the team and I had the opportunity to meet with Bob from Angela's House, we really knew immediately that this was something we needed to pursue. It's difficult for me to really explain the journey Bob has been on, and convey the passion he has for Angela's House, but after learning more about Angela's House, and getting to know Bob in our two hour meeting, it became clear to all of us what the next steps would be. I think I just told Bob, we're going to make this happen, and we briefly discussed the next steps." Manchester added that with the full support of the owner's of the Hotel, Mr. Barry Halperin and Mrs. Ellen Halperin, they can really put their time and energy toward making this happen. He stated that the Halperins are always in favor of getting involved in charitable causes and events, and that they provide their team with the resources they need to get things done.
Since then, the Holiday Inn's team started their behind the scenes work, although they did decide with Bob still present at the meeting that they would once again host a Hawaiian Luau themed event in their outdoor garden courtyard on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm, with a rain date of Thursday the 17th to benefit Angela's House. Besides that, the Holiday Inn team has started creating official flyers and invitations for the event. They even started planning the set-up and the Hawaiian Luau themed menu.
Ultimately the Hotel's team plans on getting corporate sponsors and the Long Island community as whole to support and contribute to the success of their endeavor. It is their goal this year to raise a minimum of $10,000.00 to benefit Angela's House and the children and families that benefit from such a great and very much needed organization. Right now their strategy is build as much awareness and support as possible, and then send out invitations seeking sponsors and attendees that will make donations that evening, which will help them reach or exceed their goal.
For those interested in getting involved with the event, becoming a sponsor, or attending to help raise funds, they are encouraged to contact the Hotel at info(at)hiwestbury(dot)com or visit the Contact page on the Hotel's website.
