Most entrepreneurs are experts in their craft but don't know how to build a business around their passion. Spring Ahead Academy was designed to educate entrepreneurs through the lens of their own business. "The college system does not adequately bridge the gap between knowledge and action," said Jennifer Hanson, Spring Ahead Academy founder and CEO. "Their expectation is that students can figure out how to apply academic concepts to the real world without any help. Research has shown that project-based learning successfully delivers against the gap, but we take it one step further and have entrepreneurs build their own businesses in the classroom." Jennifer went on to explain their classes are in a more "user-friendly" format, affordable, and deliver topics for an entrepreneur at any stage of design or development. "Our classes have been a huge success. Not only do the participants learn, the assessment is delivered through the business results achieved during class."
The instructors enjoy it as well. Allison Leanos, Spring Ahead’s lead Social Media instructor told us “We have a mix of ages and industries in our classes. This makes teaching very enjoyable and brings different questions each day of instruction.” “The instruction is really tailored to our needs. Not only is the instruction providing the right content, but also at a pace that allows everyone in the class to keep up and learn from each other,” stated Connor Grayson of Grayson’s Tune Town.
Many times, Spring Ahead spends time before the classes start to ready the entrepreneurs by providing them strategic guidance. The strategic planning work allows the clients to create their vision, objectives, and strategies that will deliver a competitive advantage and launch the business of their dreams. “This allows the entrepreneur to create plans through the classes that are actionable while minimizing the re-work that comes with strategic changes,” Jennifer explained.
Spring Ahead Academy’s classes cover a wide range of topics from marketing, operations, finance, social media, international business, sales, website development, change management, and many others. Each course is delivered by college professors who are industry experts and have a wealth of pedagogical experience in academia. The formats range from 4-week classes held twice a week for two hours per session to one day seminars positioned as thought starters for future students.
Spring Ahead Academy is also working with local non-profits to assist them in building project-based learning curriculums for their own community of learners. "The education system is broken for entrepreneurs. We are helping to fix it and build a stronger economy driven by small businesses," stated Jennifer Hanson, "and we've already seen our students succeed."
