Kindel Furniture Acquires Councill Furniture
Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) July 13, 2015 -- Kindel Furniture Company announced today that it has signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire the intellectual property of Councill Company LLC, a residential and contract furniture maker from Denton, North Carolina. The purchase includes all case goods and the vast majority of upholstery products.
The Councill Company was founded by Fred Councill in 1973 and built a reputation for fine quality traditional designs as well as executive office furniture. Based on a request for office furniture from Wall Street investment bankers, in 1980 Mr. Councill purchased a second factory in Denton and began producing desks, credenzas and conference tables. In recent years the company has introduced more transitional styles overall and it continued to offer an extensive line of executive desks and office furnishings. The product line is an ideal complement to the product offerings offered by Kindel and Karges.
Kindel, founded in 1901 and based in Grand Rapids, Michigan is a family-owned furniture manufacturer known for 100% American-made luxury furniture. In 2014 Kindel purchased the Karges Furniture Company, another family-owned furniture manufacturer from Evansville, Indiana. Councill represents another luxury furniture brand, made in the United States that is committed to bench-made methods and superior craftsmanship.
“The combined companies of Kindel, Karges and Councill now reflect the best of the best in American craftsmanship, quality and timeless design,” states James A. Fisher, owner and Chairman of the Board of Directors. “The growth opportunities for Kindel and its stable of brands are enormous. We strive to be the company that builds to order and offers custom capabilities in the most extensive sense. It is a natural for Councill to join the Kindel companies.”
With the Karges acquisition Kindel expanded distribution domestically and internationally, increased sales and marketing and collaboration on best practices for complex cabinetry and finishing. The addition of Councill, will continue the opportunity for increased volume and growth in residential and contract furniture sales.
The company is transitioning production from Denton to Grand Rapids. Future plans include hiring additional craftsmen and craftswomen. Moore Council, the son of founder, Fred Councill, has returned to his roots by joining the combined companies as Senior Vice President of Sales for all Kindel brands. Moore’s new role was announced by Kindel earlier this week.
Kindel is buying select inventory and materials as production begins immediately in Grand Rapids. The company is accepting orders effective this date. For more information contact Rob Burch, CEO of Kindel at 616-243-3676 or email rburch(at)kindelfurniture(dot)com.
