Catherine Lutz Is Raising Funds to Combat Breast and Ovarian Cancer in Young Women
(PRWEB) July 20, 2015 -- Catherine Lutz is raising funds for the Bright Pink Organization by fundraising a run at the Dallas Metro Marathon on December 13, 2015. Her efforts can also be supported through the purchase of her self-published book “Mommy R Your Boobies Broken? Breast Cancer through the eyes of a 3 year old,” as a portion of sales for the remainder of 2015 will also be donated.
In 2010, Catherine was diagnosed to Breast Cancer when “fine like sand” cancer was detected in her right breast. Catherine underwent a bi-lateral mastectomy and elected DIEP Flap which is an advanced form of breast cancer reconstruction using her own skin and fat to reconstruct the breasts. Despite setbacks, including a partial hysterectomy in January 2015, Catherine says, “I refuse to live life in fear of round 2, 3, or 4; I will not let cancer define my life!"
This will be Catherine's 3rd marathon but her first for charity. Lutz's selected charity is the Bright Pink Organization, a national non-profit focusing on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. “I’m not a fast runner; but I will finish the race with appreciation and gratitude for my blessings. If I can promote awareness and inspire women faced with breast and ovarian cancer to stay positive then running 26.2 miles is worth every step." She said.
Her marathon fundraising page can be found https://fundraise.brightpink.org/Runwithme 100% of funds raised go directly to the charity.
Last year, Catherine self-published her first book, "Mommy R Your Boobies Broken, Breast Cancer through the eyes of a 3 year old." Seeing the struggle of her daughter to understand illness or death with the limited scope of her life experiences, Lutz's book discusses the ways parents can explain these concepts to children.
She plans to release a second book next year concerning survivor's guilt, which can plague survivors of any traumatic event, illness included, with questions like ‘why me?’ or ‘why was I so fortunate when others weren’t?’ Lutz says, “My life was saved so now it’s my job to make sure it was worth saving.”
