Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), welcomes the news that the company has been shortlisted to take part in the Request for Tender (RFT) stage of the tender process to run the myki smart card ticketing system in Melbourne when the current contract expires in 2016.

The tender process is expected to be completed in mid-2016, with the successful respondent to commence their contract at the start of 2017.

Tom Walker, managing director of Cubic Transportation Systems Australasia, said, “We are confident Cubic can dramatically improve the transport experience for commuters in Melbourne by utilizing the latest innovations in Cubic ticketing technology now used in major cities around the globe.

“As the market leader, Cubic offers Melbourne a safe pair of hands. We’re not proposing untried or experimental technology, but the latest in innovations that are tried and true globally, including the Oyster card in London, the Clipper card in San Francisco, the Opal card in Sydney, and the go card in Brisbane."

“Central to our success in other world-class cities has been establishing a productive partnership with our customers. We look forward to the opportunity to establish a similar long-term relationship with Public Transport Victoria (PTV).

“Should PTV select Cubic as their long-term partner, our first priority will be to ensure that Cubic’s introduction is smooth, seamless and that the current myki system continues to operate efficiently, while investigating a range of future enhancements that have the ability to bring a new level of convenience and excitement to Victorian commuters,” he said.
