North Shore Eye Surgeon David Immanuel, MD Voted ‘Top Doctor’ in New York Metro Area Award
Garden City, New York (PRWEB) July 20, 2015 -- North Shore Eye Care continues an impressive trend of ‘Top Doctor’ awards with the recent announcement of corneal specialist, David Immanuel, MD being named a ‘Top Doctor’ by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. 15th edition of Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, according to eye surgeon Jeffrey Martin, medical director of North Shore Eye Care and a 6th year recipient of the Castle Connolly ‘Top Doctor’ for the New York Metro Area.
“Anytime one of our doctors is recognized for his dedication to the medical profession makes all of us at North Shore Eye Care extremely proud,” Dr. Martin said. During the past several years, several of the doctors at North Shore Eye Care have been voted as ‘Top Doctors’ by Castle Connolly. “I can think of very few practices in the country who have earned more recognition than our doctors and we pleased to now include Dr. Immanuel to this impressive list.”
To earn this coveted title, a physician-led research team carefully reviewed Dr. Immanuel’s credentials and selected him for his excellence in medical care and practice. Physicians do not – and cannot – pay to be included in the annual Castle Connolly ‘Top Doctor’ edition.
“The ‘Top Doctor’ award is something we all appreciate because it serves as quite a reinforcement that our efforts to provide patients the personal and professional medical care they deserve from their doctor have not gone unnoticed,” said Dr. Immanuel. “I could not be more proud to be included in the inner circle of Metro area physicians who have earned this special award.”
Dr. Immanuel is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and fellowship trained as a corneal specialist. His office is located on Hilton Avenue in Hempstead bordering Garden City (less than a mile south of the Garden City Hotel) where he has been in private practice for approximately 10 years (http://www.cornealeyedoc.com).
Dr. Immanuel specializes in cataract and refractive surgery and has performed as many as 400 cataracts per year. As an eye doctor, his goal with cataract surgery is not just to treat the cataract, but also to provide his patients with spectacle free vision for both distance and near once the cataract has been removed. This is achieved by utilizing special intraocular lenses along with the precision of laser cataract surgery. Dr. Immanuel is very excited about offering this new technology to his patients because it makes cataract surgery both safer and more precise.
Dr. Immanuel has also trained and supervised cataract surgery to resident physicians at Nassau University Medical Center where he served as an attending physician. He is currently on staff at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola and North Shore University Hospital in Syosset and performs surgery at Long Island Ambulatory Surgery Center in Brentwood and Island Eye Surgicenter in Carle Place.
Dr. Immanuel graduated Valedictorian from St. Paul's School in Garden City, New York, then graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Dr. Immanuel had extensive research experience and published numerous articles before embarking on a career in ophthalmology. He received his medical training at New York University School of Medicine and was in the Medical Scientist Training Program where he received a combined MD and PhD degrees studying a gene involved in human sarcomas. He completed an internship in Medicine at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania and was elected the Chief Resident at University of Maryland in Baltimore where he completed his Ophthalmology residency. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive surgery with Dr. Theodore Perl at Corneal Associates of New Jersey.
The scope of Dr. Immanuel's surgical practice also includes: wavefront, bladeless LASIK, corneal transplant, DSAEK surgery and pterygium excisions. He also treats diseases of the cornea and ocular surface including corneal dystrophies, keratoconus, corneal abrasions, recurrent corneal erosions, corneal infiltrates and ulcers, corneal edema and scarring, band keratopathy, contact related complications, Herpes Simplex and Herpes Zoster infections, dry eyes, meibomian gland disease, and blepharitis.
In addition Dr. Immanuel regularly sees patients with glaucoma (including SLT and iridotomy laser treatments), macular degeneration, diabetes and hypertensive retinopathy.
Dr. Immanuel is married to a genetics research scientist and teacher who works at Cornell Medical Center and has a 10 year old daughter, Leia, who loves to paint. When not working, Dr. Immanuel enjoys windsurfing, skiing, and flying radio controlled gliders.
