Our national criminal database searches over 1,100 criminal repositories, making it harder for tenants to hide criminal history.
Middletown, OH (PRWEB) July 14, 2015
In October 2014 Selection.com® announced a citywide program to help reduce crime by promoting pre-screening of potential tenants. One city in particular, agreed to provide their landlords with seed money to use in pre-screening their tenants.
In a recent article by the Middletown Journal News it was reported that earlier this year, to assist local landlords in leasing their properties to quality prospects, the city set aside $5,000 for reduced-cost background checks. Selection.com® has prepared a report for prospective tenants that includes previous addresses, past due accounts, and credit score as well as a criminal check of more than 241 courts in Ohio.
In the first six months of this program, the effort has been successful. When reviewing criminal searches alone, 38% of tenants screened had undisclosed criminal violations. After removing minor charges (failure to register dog, unspecified misdemeanors), the resulting applicants had a 31% hit rate including charges such as:
- Receiving Stolen Property
- Failure to pay taxes
- Passing bad checks
- Domestic violence
Selection.com® President, James Boeddeker, stated, “By comparison, the national average for criminal hit rates is 18%. This means that landlords and community partners are well-served by performing tenant screenings. Our national criminal database searches over 1,100 criminal repositories, making it harder for tenants to hide criminal history.”
Criminal research together with a tenant credit report helps property owners protect their investment and helps the community reduce crime.
Selection.com® was started in 1991 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Selection.com® provides a full range of employee screening background check reports including criminal background checks, employment verifications, education verifications, drug screenings and professional license verifications.
