The SHOTBOX introduces a new way to scan, digitize and take 3D object photos.

Digitize boxes of family photos quickly and easily take better photos of products sold online with your smart phone. The SHOTBOX is a high-quality, collapsible, portable, tabletop light studio that uses specialized high-powered LED’s to create a perfectly lit “micro-studio” environment. The SHOTBOX can be used for any type of product photography, from documents to 3-dimensional items. Aaron Johnson – founder and inventor of SHOTBOX – came up with the idea over 12 years ago when trying to figure out how to scan journals and 12x12 scrapbook pages.

"Common scanners are simply too small, time-consuming and limited. The big companies like Ancestry don't really use them at all. They use cameras, really expensive cameras. I wanted to create a product that helps you take really great archive pictures without a $15,000+ camera or scanner. We’re building what I call “Kitchen Table Technology” that benefits every home, family and office setting using cameras already purchased."

The sturdy, yet portable and lightweight nature of the SHOTBOX opens the door for many solutions that have been difficult or cumbersome to date. One doesn't have to be a serious genealogist to realize the value of taking a SHOTBOX to Grandma or Grandpa’s house to capture all the memories locked in their home or to other locations that documents and artifacts can’t be removed.

Any camera will work with the SHOTBOX whether it is a smart phone, tablet, DSLR or Digital Point-and-Shoot. The SHOTBOX is optimized for the smart devices to make it easy, fast and fun. “By going straight to a smart device, we utilize smart technology. Backup into the cloud is automatic and tasks that used to take many steps like faxing or scanning can all be done right on the phone or tablet”, says Johnson.

As one of the original inventors of the Cricut Electronic Cutter, Johnson’s 20+ year entrepreneurial career has centered around the craft, scrapbook and memory markets.

"I love the creativity and innovation of the craft and hobby industry. The first decade of my business focused on artwork and fonts from dozens and dozens of great artists. That all evolved into inventing the methodology and system surrounding the cartridge content and user interface of the Cricut. The Cricut was and still is an incredible product.” states Johnson. “The SHOTBOX extends beyond the boundaries of just the craft and hobby market. The outright need is for everyone. It should be in every home, school, and office. The possibilities of use are endless.”

The SHOTBOX can be found on Kickstarter by following this link: and is trying to raise $50,000 by August 20th.
