"Our firm stays actively involved in community safety issues. We hope to raise awareness that could potentially save a life." - William K. Mattar

William Mattar, PC has begun their new campaign in the wake of many recent news stories of children and animal deaths after being left in vehicles under hot, summer conditions. William Mattar Law Offices will be distributing valuable safety kits to local day cares, police stations, fire departments, animal shelters, radio and television stations with the William Mattar “In the Heat, Check the Seat” logo on it to make people aware and possibly save a life.
Children die every year from heat stroke after being left in vehicles. The stories heard from the parents are, they thought the child was dropped off at daycare, babysitters, etc. This can sound careless and unexplainable when first hearing. Parents explain this as not forgetting their child in the car. But believing that their child is safe where they are supposed to be as the parent’s mind may be focused on work duties such as meetings, speeches or appointments. They then make the drive straight to work, believing they have already dropped their child off, while the child is asleep in their rear- facing car seat. Other tragedies occur in situations where children may be playing in a vehicle and lock themselves in the car or trunk without the parents knowing that is where they are.
On a 78-degree day, the temperature inside a parked car can rise as high as 100 and 120 degrees in only minutes, and on a 90-degree day, the interior temperature of a vehicle can reach as high as 160 degrees in less than 10 minutes. Summer temperatures can exceed well over 90 degrees on some days as well. A child or animal left in a car under these conditions for even minutes can lead to respiratory distress and potential death from hyperthermia.
