New York Metro Area-Based Hofstra Law Partners with Pearson to Launch Health Law and Policy Online Graduate Degrees
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 03, 2015 -- The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, located 25 miles east of New York City, announced today its partnership with Pearson to launch two new online graduate degree programs — Master of Arts in Health Law & Policy and Master of Laws in Health Law & Policy. Through the partnership, Pearson will provide comprehensive services including: 24/7 helpdesk support, LMS hosting, marketing, recruiting, online training for faculty, state-authorization and compliance consulting, course development and design, and student support services. The programs are anticipated to launch in fall 2015.
“Through our Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy we have seen a real demand for legal training among health care professionals, and these programs help meet this critical demand,” said Hofstra Law Dean Eric Lane. “Offering the degrees online continues our tradition of being at the forefront of legal education and builds on our academic leadership in health law, while distinguishing Hofstra Law as an innovator in legal online learning.”
The programs have been created in response to the tremendous growth in health care fields that require legal knowledge, spurred by new government regulations, laws, mandates, and funding. The Master of Arts in Health Law & Policy program enables professionals to appropriately interface with attorneys in the field. Together, the two programs enable Hofstra Law to expand its reach in this space.
Pearson’s Senior Vice President of Online Learning Services, Todd Hitchcock, said, “Health care professionals are finding that they need to fully understand applicable laws and regulations in order to effectively perform their job duties. The new programs seek to meet the needs of this dynamic group of learners.”
The Master of Arts in Health Law & Policy degree program will accept lawyers as well as non-lawyers, including a wide variety of professionals such as doctors, insurance professionals, hospital administrators, clinicians, and leaders in a broad range of allied fields, including those from nonprofits who are seeking legal literacy. The program will consist of 30 credit hours with 11 courses, which can be completed in two years.
The Master of Laws in Health Law & Policy degree program is designed for experienced legal professionals seeking to focus their practice in the rapidly growing field of health law. This is a prime example of an area of law that offers increased opportunity for experienced attorneys with specialized knowledge. The program will consist of 25 credit hours with 9 courses, which can be completed in just 18 months.
