Prior to Updox Dmail, physicians could only access Direct email through their EHR. We’re changing that to make the benefits of Direct available to any physician.
Dublin, Ohio (PRWEB) July 20, 2015
Updox, the industry leader for physician connectivity and CRM solutions for health care, launched Updox Dmail, a personalized Direct secure email address that physicians can register for and keep with them as they move practices or even if they have another address through their EHR. Updox Dmail offers HIPAA-compliant Direct secure addresses that are consistent and stay with physicians no matter where they work, what electronic health record (EHR) they use or even if they don’t have an EHR. Updox Dmail can be accessed from any Web browser or smart phone.
“Direct Secure email is quickly becoming the standard way for physicians to securely exchange HIPAA-protected health information, including referrals, notes and continuity of care documents. Ninety percent of health care communications occurs point-to-point so Direct messaging just makes sense in this industry,” said Michael Morgan, chief executive officer, Updox. "Many physicians’ offices use standard email to transfer protected health information, which isn’t secure and could be considered a violation.”
Physicians interested in Updox Dmail Direct secure email can visit http://updox.com/UpdoxDmail/ to create their personalized email address. Once registered, they will also be listed in the Updox Direct Email Directory for other verified users to find Direct addresses for information exchange and referrals.
In the 2015 HIMSS HIE and Direct Messaging Survey, 67 percent of respondents support Direct as the method of choice for exchanging data. The study found substantial use of Direct in support of care coordination use cases. The most cited benefits of Direct included speedier access to information, less paper handling and more accurate and complete patient information.
"As Direct evolves, the technology supports the way that health care is moving. Accountable care, coordinated care, patient-centered health homes and telemedicine are all driving us toward intertwined relationships, making it essential that physicians communicate quickly and securely with patients, partners and other physicians," said Andrew Barbash, MD, a clinical neurologist and CEO, The Apractis Clinic. "Updox makes Direct email accessible and easy to use. It’s an invaluable tool to any physician who wants to grow their referral network and exchange information with other providers. I think it is critical that physicians have their own secure email they can access anywhere and keep with them, independent of their work location."
“We’re offering physicians the opportunity to sign up for a personalized, HIPAA-compliant email address they can use wherever and whenever they need it. Even if they already have a secure email through their existing practice or EHR, Updox Dmail is not tied to a specific EHR or organization,” says Morgan. “Prior to Updox Dmail, physicians could only access Direct email through their EHR. We’re changing that to make the benefits of Direct, including listing in a searchable Direct secure Directory and the referral building capabilities that offers, available to any physician who wants to join.”
In addition to secure Updox Dmail, physicians can also add an optional dedicated individual fax number so that, no matter where they are, they can get information via fax or email. The same as Updox Dmail, this electronic fax number never changes, regardless of workplace, making it ideal for professional or personal use. It requires no paper, no hardware and is a fully mobile solution so faxes and messages can be accessed from computers, tablets and smart phones.
