TTI Receives Patent for Validating Ipsative Assessments with Brain Waves
Scottsdale, Ariz., (PRWEB) July 22, 2015 -- Target Training International, Ltd., the research and development company associated with TTI Success Insights, has received its fourth U.S. patent for validating self-reporting (ipsative) assessments using brain imaging.
TTI is using electroencephalography (EEG) to validate what people say about themselves when they take assessments. As individuals answer questions about how they behave, what motivates them, their soft skills and acumen, the EEG measures brain waves to validate the decisions behind their self-reported responses. TTI has coined this innovate qualitative and quantitative approach, a first of its kind for the industry, as Validating Ipastive Decision-making using Electroencephalography (VIDE).
“Never before have we been able to draw a scientific correlation between self-reported answers on assessments to what is actually happening inside a person’s brain,” said Ron Bonnstetter Ph.D., TTI’s senior vice president of research and development. “Verifying with VIDE provides the most unbiased, predictable results in the assessment industry.”
The VIDE process uses asymmetric wave analysis resulting from a stimuli to validate responses at the very moment of decision-making, thereby exposing peoples’ true thoughts and brain patterns behind their responses. A first-of-its-kind step in the assessment industry, this process documents both the intensity of human emotional response, as well as the directionality of the response.
Since applying for the patent in 2012 and going through the approval process, TTI has been gathering and analyzing related findings from the VIDE process. Recently, researchers found the emotional connections we hold about certain soft skills in the workplace — such as leadership, teamwork and futuristic thinking — may dictate our capacity to further develop those skills. For example, if an individual has a negative association with leadership skills, TTI’s research shows they may be less likely to strengthen that skill. Further findings are outlined in the Uncovering Training Challenges with Brain Imaging white paper.
The group that secured the patent includes Dr. Bonnstetter, Bill J. Bonnstetter, chairman of Target Training International, Ltd. and TTI SI; and Dustin Hebets, TTI research and development coordinator. Providing integral support of the VIDE research in the form of equipment and software is Thomas F. Collura of BrainMaster Technologies, Inc.
Researchers at TTI have been incorporating findings from its VIDE research into its suite of products since 2011 to provide the most well-rounded tools in hiring, retaining and growing talent in companies, both large and small.
