South Florida Established Flakka Task Force, Harbor Village Comments On Its Necessity
Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 24, 2015 -- According to a recent article published by Health News Florida on July 8th, the Broward County Police Department has established a flakka task force. According to recent police reports there has been a 45 percent increase of flakka related events since its first appearance in 2013. Since the onset of the flakka epidemic, the Broward Police Department has been presenting through the local community on the adverse effects of flakka, the health risks of using the substance and the dangers revolving around the people who use the substance. Flakka is a synthetic drug which has become popular due to its ease of availability and low price tag of $3-$5 per dose. Harbor Village is a drug and alcohol rehab center in Florida directly impacted by the influx of flakka users. Patients who attend the treatment center to undergo detox exhibit similar symptoms to those who are actively detoxing from opiates.
Harbor Village asserts more must be done to tackle the flakka epidemic, as school aged children, teenagers, and the homeless have been targeted by deals trying to push the product.
An associate of the addiction treatment center in Florida comments, “It’s not uncommon to see videos of people on flakka swarm YouTube and other social media venues. Our concern is the strange behavior exhibited by those high on the substance will not be taken for the serious risk it undeniably is. Many exposed to the drug do not understand the long term afflictions the substance causes. As such, it is apparent we, as a county, are remiss of publishing critical information about the dangers of the drug.
“Those under the influence of flakka are more likely to be violent and engage in harmful behavior. Many do not seek treatment right away, and wait for the addictive substance to create a psychological dependence before getting help. We must encourage people and promote community outreach programs in order to admit users into treatment long before the long term physical and mental effects take root.”
Harbor Village is a drug and alcohol detox and rehabilitation facility providing the Miami-Dade County heroin detox. The treatment facility admits clients from the entire United States, and provides them with seamless drug and alcohol detoxification without the adverse symptoms of withdrawal. The addiction treatment center understands users need to confront the underlying catalysts of addiction and help clients unearth the laden emotions and traumas precipitating the disease to better prevent relapse after graduation from their offering of full spectrum addiction treatment programs.
Harbor VIllage accepts most major insurances and offers tuition assistance in special circumstances. Their website offers a free benefits check for ease of use.
