Experts: Dr. Michael Alper, MD and Alan Penzias, MD, Boston IVF physicians, to present information on Fertility, Egg Freezing, and answer questions from attendees.

“Age is the most common factor in fertility. Egg Freezing drastically changes the landscape for career women who are feeling pressured as it evens the playing field because the technology today allows females more choice in family building options,” said Dr. Michael Alper.

Why learn about Egg Freezing: Most women are not aware that they can prevent maturing eggs from affecting their fertility and ability to have a child. Eggs removed from the ovaries and frozen do not age. Age is the most important factor that affects a woman's fertility. A woman's fertility remains stable up to age 35-36 and then begins to decrease thereafter.

Process of Egg Freezing: The cycle requires natural hormone injections that stimulates the follicles to develop within the ovaries. The daily injections are self-administered with a small needle for a period of 7-10 days and during this time the response is monitored with blood work and vaginal ultrasound exams to follow the growth of the follicles. Once there has been a good response and the follicles are mature, plans are then made for the egg retrieval, performed at our Waltham Center. The egg retrieval procedure is completed in less than 20 minutes and all of the eggs are then frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen tanks.
