Solterra Senior Living Produces Rap Video Starring Senior Residents
Chandler, AZ (PRWEB) July 24, 2015 -- In a move to get its residents involved and engaged, Solterra Senior Living recently produced and released a rap video -- performed entirely by two 96-year-old women whose rap aliases are "E-Rock" and "Izzy."
On Saturday, July 11, the senior living community, which also offers memory care and subacute care, uploaded the music video, entitled “The Strahan Situation,” to Facebook and YouTube. The title refers to ex-NFL player Michael Strahan, says Melissa Barry, Regional Director of Business Development.
Adrian Cordero, Business Development Director, first came up with the idea for the video, Barry says. In the video, Evelyn ("E-Rock") and Izora ("Izzy") challenge Strahan to a rap battle. The archetypal hip-hip music video symbols -- from gold chains and champagne to a bright red Ferrari -- are all present.
"The residents went along with it and were very excited to do it," Barry says. "It’s something different that our community is willing to try, because having fun is truly one of our core values. We have a very family-friendly type of community and we always try to find new ways to engage our residents with new fun activities."
Cordero also developed a video showing Solterra Senior Living residents' reactions after seeing "50 Shades of Grey" this spring; the video even caught the attention of late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Because residents had so much fun making that video, it was only natural to keep making more video content for the community's YouTube channel, Barry explains.
“Solterra tries different activities with our residents to keep them engaged and having fun -- and the possibilities for these activities are really endless," Barry says. "We think people will enjoy watching this video, as we know we enjoyed making it. You're never too old to be a hip-hop fan!”
