We want to be able to give each child something to make them feel better while they’re in our care or spending time with a loved one, and these items will make a world of difference.

Today, a local Girl Scout, who was once a patient at Florida Hospital Carrollwood, came back to donate hundreds of toys, games and art supplies for pediatric patients. Ashlyn Baralt was treated at Florida Hospital Carrollwood's Emergency Department for a broken wrist. After her time at the hospital, she became inspired to collect toys, games, coloring books, crayons and puzzles for young patients and visitors. She wanted to "pay if forward" to other boys and girls who may find themselves in an emergency situation at the hospital's ED.

As a scout with Troop 432 based in Clearwater, Ashlyn is working towards her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest and most prestigious award a Girl Scout can earn. With her toy collection and donation project, she will receive the Girl Scout Silver Award.

“We were visiting the area with our troop for a zip lining trip, and Ashlyn fell and broke her wrist. They took us to the closest hospital, which was Florida Hospital Carrollwood,” said Jennifer Baralt, Ashlyn’s mother and Girl Scout Troop Leader. “Her experience with the ER team was memorable for her, and she wanted to find a way to give back.”

Ashlyn involved her classmates at St. Cecelia Interparochial Catholic School in Clearwater to collect enough toys, books, puzzles, crayons, and coloring books to fill 10 large bins for her donation to Florida Hospital Carrollwood.

“This large of a donation is so appreciated, to help cheer up our pediatric patients,” said Charity Carlisle, Florida Hospital Carrollwood Emergency Department Manager. “We want to be able to give each child something to make them feel better while they’re in our care or spending time with a loved one, and these items will make a world of difference.”
