New Stopain® Migraine Topical Pain Relieving Gel Proves Efficacious in Published, Observational Study
Hazleton, PA (PRWEB) July 28, 2015 -- A study conducted by the Jefferson Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University has found new Stopain® Migraine (http://www.StopainMigraine.com), the first, over-the-counter topical gel formulated specifically for migraine pain relief, to be safe and effective in the treatment of an acute migraine attack. Now available in Walmart (and soon to be at Rite Aid and HEB), Stopain Migraine brings a new option for relief to the 37 million migraine sufferers in the United States.
“Effectively treating a migraine can be extremely difficult, even with the wide variety of treatments available,” says Stephen D. Silberstein, MD, Neurologist and Director of the Jefferson Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. “Stopain Migraine is unique in that it works alone, but can also be used in conjunction with oral therapies for relief, reapplied up to four times daily in the event it’s needed.”
Dr. Silberstein’s team at the Jefferson Headache Center conducted an observational study using Stopain Migraine with 25 migraine sufferers. Fifty-two percent (52%) showed a statistically significant improvement of headache pain by one severity level two hours after Stopain Migraine was applied. After a 24 hour period, 96% showed an improvement of headache pain by one severity level (severity levels were no pain, mild pain, moderate pain and severe pain). The study concluded that Stopain Migraine is safe and may be effective in the treatment of an acute migraine attack. It was published in the peer-reviewed Frontiers in Neurology.*
“As a topical treatment, Stopain Migraine is an attractive alternative or adjunct for migraine pain relief due to its accessibility as an OTC medicine, its rapid onset of action, direct application to the back of the neck and behind each ear and lack of systemic side effects,” says Anthony Cicini, vice president of Troy Healthcare, maker of Stopain Migraine. “Stopain Migraine begins to work as soon as it’s applied and can be applied at any stage of a migraine.”
How It Works
Stopain Migraine is applied topically as a measured dose to the finger tips then onto the back of the neck and behind each ear (an area where many migraines are believed to originate). Stopain Migraine’s airless pump technology ensures precision dosing each time. For ages 12 years and up, it can be applied at any stage of the migraine, up to four times daily, either alone or in conjunction with other migraine medications. While a majority of sufferers have migraines once or twice a month, many sufferers can experience chronic migraines at least 15 days per month. While the cause of migraines is mostly unknown, they are often triggered by a variety of things, such as stress, food, weather, activities, lack of sleep and more. This makes migraine one of the top 20 debilitating illnesses in this country according to the Migraine Research Foundation.
Stopain Migraine is now available at Walmart, and will be available at Rite Aid and HEB stores this September. For a limited time, print a $3-off coupon at http://www.StopainMigraine.com, where migraine sufferers can also learn more and download a free food-trigger mobile app from MigraineChecked.
