E! News Reality Show ‘Botched’ Recently Brings Light to the Danger’s of Cosmetic Surgery Tourism: Liposuction Expert Discusses
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) July 29, 2015 -- Patients featured on E!’s reality series ‘Botched’ have gone through some extreme and highly dangerous situations in their search for having the “perfect” physique. On a recent episode airing June 21, 2015, they featured 29 year old patient Albert, who traveled to Mexico for pec implants. “I was really anxious to get it done and it was half the cost,” he said.
After Alberts procedure, he had severe negative reactions as his body rejected the new implant. “When I woke up, I was really sick,” Albert says. “I was throwing up everywhere; I felt like I came to Mexico to die.” He left Mexico immediately and was rushed to the nearest hospital. “I felt relieved that I made it out alive,” Albert says during his interview on 'Botched'. "But at the same time, I couldn’t believe I went through all of that just to make it look worse and feel worse about it.”
Trevor Schmidt PA-C, the owner and liposuction specialist at MyShape Lipo has been practicing liposuction for nearly 10 years and has performed over 15,000 liposuction procedures. As a specialist, he has seen a steady increase of unhappy patients that had "Botched" procedures performed by practitioners out of the country. "It's really sad to hear the horrific stories of these people that were trying to save money by going out of the country, and now they are coming to me trying to get it fixed," says Schmidt.
“The standards are simply not the same outside of the U.S.,” says Schmidt. “The clinics are unsanitary, the medical equipment is outdated, and the medications used may be expired or not FDA approved. We've been able to accomplish a very impressive safety record simply by following the standards and regulations we are governed by. There is really no reason to risk your life for a cosmetic procedure when there are safer and affordable options right here.”
According to Latino Fox News, Dominican authorities had to shut down yet another plastic surgery clinic as they investigate the death of a U.S. woman who traveled to the Caribbean country to undergo a liposuction procedure. The report shows that this is the fourth woman and second American who has died this year at a Dominican plastic surgery clinic.
“It’s shocking how people completely disregard the risks of the procedures and put their lives in danger by going to see these overseas surgeons,” says Schmidt. “They may think they are getting a great 'deal', but If revisions are required due to complications from surgery the cost can be substantial. It is always easier to prevent a problem before it happens, rather than fix it after it has occurred.”
With the cost of cosmetic surgery steadily on the rise it is understandable why U.S citizens would seek to travel for a cheaper alternative. However, there is no need to travel out of the country when there are much safer and cost effective alternatives offered here.
According to Schmidt, medical tourism has increased dramatically over the past few years. MyShape Lipo has proven to be an innovator in medical tourism as they have attracted over 70% of their patients from out of state. They developed a system to make the whole process very easy and cost effective for those traveling.
"If we can create a situation that is easy for patients, where we offer consistently high quality results, all at a rate nearly 1/3 the national average, the people will continue to come," says Schmidt. "Since we specialize in liposuction, we have been able to create a much more efficient organization while maintaining the highest level of medical care. The key is getting consistent results, and building a brand patients can trust."
Bria Lomax, a patient of MyShape Lipo who flew in from Philadelphia says, “the entire process was so easy for me. The team at MyShape Lipo was extremely friendly and very helpful in arranging everything. I saved almost $9,000, plus I got a trip to Las Vegas. I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering liposuction.”
Trevor Schmidt PA-C has developed a unique business structure to cater to his patients that fly in nationwide. “With great customer service, transparent affordable prices and excellent outcomes, we have had tremendous success with providing patients peace of mind and the highest standard of care,” says Schmidt.
