BMI of Texas Now Offering Duodenal Switch Surgery – Weight Loss Procedure Helps Obese Patients Lose Weight Quickly
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) July 28, 2015 -- BMI of Texas, which specializes in a variety of weight loss surgery procedures in Texas, is now offering the duodenal switch weight loss surgery procedure. Committed to helping patients achieve their weight loss goals and improved health through medical weight management and bariatric surgery procedures, BMI of Texas is one of the first practices in South Texas to offer the duodenal switch procedure, which has been proven effective in addressing numerous diseases and health issues, including diabetes, high cholesterol, hyperlipidemia and sleep apnea.
“Of the four weight loss operations we offer, the duodenal switch is the most drastic and as a result, it creates the most weight loss and the greatest chance of eliminating diabetes for our patients,” said Dr. Terive Duperier, a bariatric surgeon and co-founder of BMI of Texas.
The ”switch” or duodenal switch procedure is a weight loss operation that combines qualities of the sleeve gastrectomy and the gastric bypass surgical procedures. The operation is performed in two steps. First the surgeon performs a sleeve gastrectomy, removing around 80 percent of the patient’s stomach and converting the remainder into a slender tube. Next, the surgeon divides the small bowel that normally connects to the stomach (called the duodenum) to create the bypass. Consumed food would normally go from the sleeve into the initial part of the small intestine, but it is re-routed or ”switched” to the lower part of the small intestine.
According to published studies, the duodenal switch procedure is effective in the long term treatment of diabetes and has an established track record of maintaining close to 90 percent of excess weight loss with patients that are compliant, which is superior to the gastric bypass procedure’s long-term results.
Obesity is a multi-factorial and complex disease, which is why BMI of Texas created a unique, comprehensive program to help patients maintain their health and weight long-term. BMI of Texas provides medical and surgical care to patients with obesity and metabolic disease in a supportive, compassionate and guilt-free environment. BMI of Texas helps patients achieve their weight loss goals and improved health through medical weight management and various surgical procedures including gastric bypass, lap band and gastric sleeve. BMI of Texas highly experienced surgeons Dr. Terive Duperier, Dr. Mickey Seger, Dr. Richard Englehardt and the entire BMI of Texas team are dedicated to creating meaningful relationships and experiences with their patients and the community in order to overcome obesity and metabolic disease -- fostering improved health and a better quality of life. Dr. Jennifer Seger heads up BMI of Texas’s medical weight loss program, where she assists patients who want to lose weight and improve their overall health.
“The duodenal switch operation works by decreasing caloric intake, decreasing absorption, and also by changing the hormonal balance in the gastrointestinal tract. BMI of Texas is the first and only practice in south Texas that is experienced in this procedure and we are pleased with the weight loss results we’ve seen in our patients. When it comes to weight loss surgery, it is our goal to not only help you achieve your weight loss goals but to improve your overall health and quality of life,” said Dr. Mickey Seger.
