Dunn Physical Therapy Physios Become Board Certified Specialists
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) July 30, 2015 -- Dunn Physical Therapy is proud to announce that five therapists have received training and earned the professional designation of Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), Sports Certified Specialist (SCS), Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist(CMTPT), or Orthopedic Manual Therapy - Certificate (OMT-C). The therapists are:
• Noah Kaminsky, DPT, SCS
• Kenny Biggs, Jr. DPT, OCS, CMP
• Meghan Belanger DPT, OCS, CMP
• Jennifer Bent, MPT, OCS, CMTPT
• Jordan Bunn, DPT, OMT-C
OCS and SCS Board Certifications are granted by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)’s American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) and involve rigorous application and examination processes. Roughly 6.5% of the physical therapists in the United States are Board Certified in a specialty, and only 3.9% of therapists in the United States are Orthopaedic Clinical Specialists. Fewer than 1% of physical therapists are Sports Clinical Specialists.
The advanced clinical knowledge and skill set that comes with a Board Certification allows therapists to better treat the patients in their specialty and keeps them up-to-date with cutting edge research and technology. The OCS certification focuses on evidence-based practice, orthopedic injury examination, treatment, and medical interventions while the SCS certification concentrates on acute and critical sports injury treatment and sports injury prevention and wellness.
The CMTPT certification identifies practitioners who are skilled in the treatment of myofascial pain using a specialized version of trigger point dry needling, and is awarded by the Certification Board for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists (CBMTPT). The OMT-C certification focuses on the performance of manual therapy techniques and how they’re utilized for the examination and treatment of selected upper and lower body dysfunctions.
“We offer our sincere congratulations to Noah Kaminsky, Kenny Biggs, Meghan Belanger, Jennifer Bent, and Jordan Bunn for receiving advanced certifications,” said Christopher Dunn, PT, OCS, CERT-MDT, CMP, owner of Dunn Physical Therapy. “We are proud of the hard work they’ve put in to further their careers, and know it will reflect in the treatment of their patients.”
