The Pearce Law Firm Awards Aspiring Pennsylvania Attorneys Scholarship to Cumberland Valley High School Graduate Shayla Burnham

The Pearce Law Firm, P.C awarded today the 2014 Pearce Law Firm Aspiring Pennsylvania Attorneys Scholarship to Shayla Burnham. Shayla just finished attending her first year at University of Virginia.

Although there were many outstanding applications, Shayla’s application stood out.

This annual scholarship opportunity is open to high school students in the state of Pennsylvania who have been accepted to a college or university and have aspirations of attending law school after college. This scholarship is judged and awarded primarily on academic achievement, school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities and financial need.

The award was created by the founder of The Pearce Law Firm, P.C., Edith Pearce, to inspire and encourage talented high school students in Pennsylvania to pursue a career in the law. In a ceremony held at The Pearce Law Firm, P.C. in Philadelphia, Ms. Pearce commented, “Although there were many outstanding applications, Shayla’s application stood out.” Shayla graduated from Cumberland Valley High School in June of 2014 with a 4.0 GPA and in the top 3% of her class. Shayla participated in the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Mock Trial Competition since her freshman year. Cumberland Valley High School’s team placed third in 2014 with over 300 high schools participating across the state. While taking many advanced placement courses, Shayla participated in many extracurricular activities in school and in her community during high school. In her application, Shayla noted the scholarship would allow her to become the first member of her family to go to college and receive a complete education from the University of Virginia. In awarding the $2,000 scholarship, Ms. Pearce stated, “The Pearce Law Firm is proud to award the Pearce Law Firm Aspiring Pennsylvania Attorneys Scholarship to Shayla Burnham.”
